YouTube Passes One Billion Subscriptions!

YouTube 1 BillionIn 2006, YouTube introduced that famous yellow Subscribe button that appeared on channels. It allows users to follow other channels so that their latest video would appear on the user’s homepage.

Today, YouTube has reached another milestone. They have announced earlier today that this button has been clicked one billion times! The one billionth subscription is MachinimaSports.

As of October 29, 2010, 15 users have bypassed the 1 million mark. 4 of those users have bypassed the 2 million mark with one getting quite close to 3 million (nigahiga – 2.8 million).

To encourage even more people to subscribe to channels, YouTube has also released a new Subscribe widget that website owners can place on their websites and blogs and allow for one click subscribing.
