Untethered Jailbreak for iOS 5.1.1 A5/A5X Devices Now Available

Do you own a jailbroken iPad 2 or iPhone 4S running iOS 5? If so, you’re probably holding off on the upgrade to iOS 5.1. Or do you own the new iPad (3rd generation) and want to jailbreak the device?

The famous Greenpois0n team has just announced the release of the much-anticipated Absinthe 2.0, which allows for an untethered jailbreak of all devices running iOS 5.1, including the newer A5 and A5X devices, which are significantly more difficult to jailbreak than earlier devices.

Unlike tethered jailbreaks, your device can still freely restart without having to connect to a computer.

Continue at your own risk. Jailbreaking will void your device’s warranty, however the original software can be restored from iTunes. Be sure to make a backup with iTunes before starting.

Simply connect your device, run the software, and hit the Jailbreak button. Everything else is taken care of for you. Make sure you disable the passcode lock on your device before beginning or you will likely run into some errors (such as “ERROR: could not stroke lockdownd”).

At this time, the new jailbreak supports all devices except iPad 2,4 (the iPad 2 currently being sold for $399). Absinthe 2.0 is available for Windows, Mac, and Linux.
