Twitter Launches Official Tweet Button

Tweet ButtonTwitter has finally launched an official Tweet Button, allowing publishers to count retweets and allow readers to share their content. There were several retweet buttons in the past, all created by third parties, most notably Tweetmeme.

Twitter has just announced earlier today that they are launched an official button and are working closely with Tweetmeme.

The Tweet button works very similarly to the Tweetmeme button. Readers simply click the Tweet button, and a popup window opens allowing them to customize the message.

Twitter’s button also has an extra useful feature. Publishers can choose to recommend two users to the readers who shared the content to follow.

In addition, instead of showing a short link in the tweet, Twitter shows the full URL, but still using only 20 characters, which is how many characters their t.co link would use. This is one of the features of their URL shortener.

Notice the full link is showing there, yet it only takes up 20 characters

    Nice little cute Twitter button.
Maybe I am going to use it for my site..

I’m considering adding it to TechAirlines, but it seems like the Apture Bar might work well for now.

The problem with these buttons (including those on the Apture Bar) is the slow Javascript. The Tweetmeme button was known to be very slow.

I like the Tweet button. It has a very nice and clean design and the new URL shortening is a big plus as well. Good job Twitter!

Yup. Twitter did a great job with the Tweet Button. I’m considering adding it to this site. I like the ‘Suggested Users to Follow’ feature as well.
