    Wowzers, I got 6/27/04

    • http://www.techairlines.com Brian Yang

Wow you were one of the lucky ones to get a Gmail account when it was first introduced. :)

      • silent

Hey there Brian someone created an email under my name and sent emails out that now have me involved in a law suit can you tell me how i can find out when this was created

        • http://www.techairlines.com Brian Yang

Hello. Are you saying that someone created a new email account pretending to be you?

If you don’t have actual access to that account, then it’s pretty difficult to figure out when the account was created because technically, it’s not your account.

About the emails being sent out causing a law suit, this shouldn’t be valid cause there’s no proof that the account is yours and it actually isn’t yours.

      • Rakesh

        yah!
        it was simply awesome,
if we had created a account means to create a chatter box to the world.
        and my,

  • riff

POP is enabled for all mail that has arrived since 2/20/05

  • jeff

    This cannot be correct.

I have emails from 2004 (time stamp and all), yet mine shows 2006.

    • http://www.techairlines.com Brian Yang

Did you have an account on any email server before 2006? If you used something like POP Download to download the messages to your account, then the timestamp can be much earlier than when you created your account.

I have emails from 2007 in my newest account, but it was created in 2010.

So far in all the accounts I’ve tried this in, it has been accurate.

Also, make sure you selected to enable POP for ALL mail before viewing the date.

  • Ali Shakoor

Thanks for tips on how to find the date. How can I find out what IP address a Gmail account was created on? Thanks so much.

    • http://www.techairlines.com Brian Yang

Sorry, I’m not sure if its possible to find out the IP address a Gmail account was created with. You can, however, view the most recent IP addresses used to access your account by clicking the “More Details” button in the footer next to “Last Account Activity”.

  • http://www.santosharyal.com.np santosh

I got gmail on 28/09/2011 and google + 21/7/2011. if anybody want + invitation email me.

  • http://www.elxproject.com blackmask

Thanks for the post Yang. I created gmail on 5/27/09. wow

  • Hider

When i do this it does not show me a year.
It is only the month and the day.
    Am i doing something wrong?
    :/

    • http://www.techairlines.com Brian Yang

If it only shows the date without the year, it means you created it within the past 12 months.

For example, if today, it says May 1, then you created it on May 1, 2011. If it says October 2, then you created it on October 2, 2010.

When your account reaches one year old, the year will start showing.

      • Hider

I know that my account is at least 3 years old.

But for some reason i just can’t get this to work on this one account.

It just shows only the date (Jul 2) on my oldest account but on 2 accounts that are a little over a year old it shows the year and the date.

        • http://twitter.com/tunker_hermes JP

I experienced something similar to this myself-

My POP settings were already enabled. I had to select the option to “Enable POP for all mail (even mail that’s already been downloaded)”

I then hit save and reloaded the Settings >Forwarding and POP/IMAP – tab and was able to see the creation date.

          Hope this helps

  • http://twitter.com/tunker_hermes JP

    Thanks for the article!

I have had mine since 8/29/04!

  • Dinesh

How long have my gmail been open

  • Ramesh

after creating an account how to send an email

  • http://www.nextgenhack.com Sreejan

Great info. Hope help this info for many gmail user. one more thing can you explain this is one`s accounts has been hacked & he can`t access his account. How did it possible to fing their email Id creation date.

    • http://www.techairlines.com Brian Yang

If the account was compromised, then you will need to regain access to it before you can retrieve your creation date info. See this on reporting a compromised account: http://support.google.com/mail/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=50270 Unfortunately, the form to prove your identity does ask you for the creation date.

This information is only accessible if you actually have access to the account. It would be a good idea to record your account creation date in a safe place somewhere just in case you need it in the future to recover your account.

Sorry, but the best option now would be to give the best estimate for the creation date.

  • Ed

POP is enabled for all mail that has arrived since 8/27/04

  • TurboTarg

5/22/06 to use the IM when YIM was malfunctioning. Lol Long enough to need the login page bookmarked to get to it! No idea it had been around since 04. Wow.

  • Eric

Awesome, 6/15/04. That’s a long time and I still use it every single day!

  • Himel Nath

It works………. Than you so much

  • Jason

This just shows the date of the oldest email I have, so since I have deleted my old emails the date is incorrect.

    • Joop

Indeed, that’s what I found as well. The date mentions the oldest email available, which is easy to find in Gmail itself as well. I know for sure that my account was older than the date given. Unfortunately, still no solution to find the actual creation date of the account.

  • Kris

Hello. If you originally enabled POP when you opened your account, and then disabled it later (like for troubleshooting), and then re-enabled POP, then the “POP is enabled” date will be the most recent enabled date (not your original account date). That’s my situation.

    • http://www.techairlines.com Brian Yang

Make sure you select “Enable POP for all mail (even mail that’s already been downloaded)”. It should only show your recent enabled date if you choose the other option (“mail that arrives from now on”).

  • Cetaman

You say, “First, head to Gmail Settings. Then click on the Forwarding and POP/IMAP tab.” The problem is I can’t access the google account in the account recovery so how can I possibly get his information.

    • http://www.techairlines.com Brian Yang

Unfortunately, there is no way to retrieve this information without access to the account. Hopefully, you will be able to regain access to your account by other means. On the account recovery form, fill in as much information as possible.

When you do, be sure to record the account creation date somewhere because that information is very useful for account recovery.

  • sarah

mines shows 3/11/08, when the account was actually created in 2006, plus i have lost all old emails received prior to 3/11/08. can u help!! how do i get those back!!

  • justin

Got 1/5/10…100% certain that is not the day this account was opened…

  • http://www.techairlines.com Brian Yang

Thanks for the comments everyone. On my 5/10/07 account, I just deleted every message dated then and the date changes so therefore, I can confirm that it is reading the date of the oldest email.

However, this method works on an account created in 2008. There are no emails around the date that it reports. I have added an additional note to the article.

Please comment on whether or not this method works for you and whether your account was created before or after 2007 (if you remember).

    • Santanu

      Hey!
My Gmail A/c celebrated its 7th Birthday on 27/05/2012!!!
      Thanks a ton Mr L & Mr B :D:D

  • http://facebook.com/michaelseanmistler Michael

Mine says 8/28/05….which sounds about right! Great tip!

  • Frederick S

This is a joke. I still have my “Gmail is different” welcome email from 2004 and it says to get email starting in 2008. So this method isn’t accurate at all.

  • Adarsh

    Thanks Bro Its WOrking

  • evey ko

This method works. First it said some date in 2008, but after I clicked on the “Enable POP/IMAP” and saved the changes, the date changed to 04/25/04. That is the date of the first email.

  • sweta

woooo I got mine on 2008.. I have been using gmail since 5 years. Wonderfull I already have been with gmail so long

  • shanmugam

how to find who are all using gmail account show me

    • http://www.techairlines.com Brian Yang

At the bottom of your Gmail inbox, there should be a line that says when your last account activity was and whether or not there is another session logged in. Click the Details link to see a list of recent activity (and IP addresses) on your Gmail account.

  • nakash

This is a email header, the mail i received. Please can i get the Original Senders Email IP address since i can only get the IP of Gmail Server

Editor’s Note: Posted email headers can be found on Pastebin.

  • sj

This isn’t accurate. Mine says 9/16/09, which was probably when I renabled POP.
I have had my gmail account since the beta days, sometime in 2004.

    • http://www.techairlines.com Brian Yang

Thanks for the comment. This further confirms that this method only works for accounts created after 2007.

  • sj

I guess I spoke to soon, I tried again with this: I disabled POP and then reenabled it with “Enable POP for all mail” and it gave me 7/11/04.
    So, it does work correctly.

    Thanks

    • http://www.techairlines.com Brian Yang

It might have just read the date of your oldest email. So far, it appears people with an account older than 2008 reported that the date is just the oldest email.

  • Nakash

This is to request for my last months login IP History request.
since some one was miss using my account and i need to know from where he or she had logged in to my account.

currently i can only get the last 10 Login Ip’s and its the same IP what i am using currently. ill be thankful if i can get a response and a solution from Google Team.

  • Nemrod

    Got mine on 10-8-04

  • http://alexander-the-blogger.blogspot.com Ram

I have disabled my POP settings long ago. Is there any other way to know my date of creation ???

    • http://www.techairlines.com Brian Yang

Even if you disabled POP, you can just re-enable it temporarily to find the date. Just select Enable POP for all mail including those already downloaded.

  • Drew

Mine showed something from 08 which was wrong. I disabled then enabled like sj suggested but then it showed 7/4/11. Unfortuneately I will never know, but I believe it was sometime in 2005.

  • chango

i tried it and it gave me 10/12/05, then i disabled pop and the date changed to 5/12/11, i know i was part of the beta, thou

  • http://www.facebook.com/brad.gunwall.1 Brad Gunwall

I have to disagree with the eligible dates – I moved to Utah in October 2003, and I already had a gmail account by then. I got an invite from a guy I was doing tech support with, and embarassingly, I accidentally entered my desired username as DATHGUNNER, instead of DARTHGUNNER – and had to beg him for another of his 5 invites. Lucky I am more charming than I am a perfect typist, and I have held darthgunner@gmail.com ever since…

    • http://www.facebook.com/brad.gunwall.1 Brad Gunwall

For the record though, this method shows 8/24/04

  • http://kamranmackey.tumblr.com/ Kamran Mackey

My Gmail Account was created on July 20th, 2010. Well thats what it told me!

  • Biswajit Sil

  • Joost Witte

Works for me; since 2005-01-24. This is also the date of the G-Mail Team welcoming mail.
So no trouble what so ever….

  • Celestine

mine was created on 08/22/2008.. proud to be a gmail user since than.. I actually have 5 accounts created on the same date.

  • Darryl Hamlin

So I used this method, and received a date of December 6, 2004, which jives with what I remember, since I got it while at SUNY Morrisville Ag & Tech (later Morrisville State).
