How to Make Websites in Firefox Easier to Read in the Dark

Do you stare at your computer screen at night or in the dark? If so, you’re probably find that looking at a white or otherwise bright screen in the dark is rather uncomfortable and eye-straining.

A few days ago, I wrote about a Chrome extension that inverts all the colors on web pages. Color inversion causes most pages to have a black background with white text which is much more comfortable to read, especially in difficult lighting situations. But what if you’re a Firefox user?

An extension called Blank Your Monitor + Easy Reading can help. Unlike the Chrome extension, it does not invert colors, but instead just changes colors based on a preset selection.

Blank Screen

Backgrounds become black

By default, backgrounds (including background images) become black, text becomes white, and links become green. These colors can be configured in the add-on options.

Blank Your Monitor

Add-on options

This add-on also comes with an Easy Reading feature, which takes highlighted text and lets you read it on a clean distraction free page (dark background and white text).

While not as great as Chrome’s extension which completely inverts all colors, Blank Your Monitor will certainly make it more comfortable to read web pages in the dark. What do you think of this Firefox add-on? Have a better method? Share with us in the comments.

Your very wrong. White text on black is a HORRIBLE eye strain. I can`t read on a site like that for more than a minute or 2. after that my eyes start to hurt and burn. I now just leave those sites. I Can`t help but to notice that this page is BLACK TEXT ON WHITE!
