With the steadily rising popularity of Chrome, the long expected overtake of Internet Explorer by Google Chrome has finally happened last week, according to the data from StatCounter. The statistics also show the slight downfall of Firefox although it still remains the most popular web browser in Europe and Africa. However, India and countries in South America are preferring Chrome over both Firefox and Internet Explorer.

Chrome had earlier overtaken Internet Explorer in March this year, temporarily, for a single day. It can be seen from the statistics that after the overtake, Internet Explorer is the second most popular web browser followed closely by Firefox. Safari and Opera also hold decent share in the market.

Although Chrome is presently on top, Microsoft seems to be trying hard to regain its top position through Internet Explorer 9. The competition from here is expected to be very interesting!

There is no question that Chrome’s growth isn’t showing any signs of slowing down. These stats are only according to one source, but do you think Chrome will eventually become the undisputed most popular browser in the world?

    Thanks for the guest post!

I currently use both Firefox and Chrome. They both have their individual strengths and weaknesses.

I expect Chrome to continue growing in market share. As I explained in my post last year regarding Chrome’s growth, Google’s very aggressive marketing for Chrome is definitely working.

Internet Explorer 9 is an excellent browser, but I’m not sure if its enough for the browser to be able to maintain the top spot.

I agree. Many online users have been deriding IE for a long time, so even though the later versions of IE have stepped up to patch holes for which it is criticized, many people (myself included) have grown to prefer and recommend Google Chrome.

Internet Explorer 9 is probably the most wonderful broweser and I am sure it will surprise us with its long occupation of the first place in the rate no matter the hrash competition.

If the world was concerned with privacy, there would be a huge resurgence in firefox. Even with tools like ghostery installed, chrome somehow finds a way to track you. Don’t believe me, compare the major browsers using the Collusion plugin!
