How do we calculate our ratings for the software we review? We are using a weighted average system.
We rate software in each of the 5 categories:
Performance: How well does it work? Does it take up a lot of RAM or require a lot of CPU in relation to what it actaully does?
Features: Is it feature rich? Is it feature bloated? Unique features? Or is it feature lacking?
Ease of Use: How easy is it to use? Is everything laied out so its easy to follow and understand? Or are the options buried somewhere?
Value for Money: Is it really worth it to buy it or upgrade from free? If the product is free (with no pro versions), it will receive the highest possible score, which is 5 in this category.
Appearance: Does it look unique? Does it look stunning? Or does it look like your run of the mill software?
In each category, we rate 1 to 5 with 5 being the highest. If a software is free, it will receive 5 for Value for Money. Then to calculate our overall rating by through a weighted average:
Performance: 25%
Features: 25%
Ease of Use: 25%
Value for Money: 15%
Appearance: 10%
However, if the product is non-visual, as in it has no interface or is console based, appearance will be N/A and therefore, the weighted average will be as follows instead:
Performance: 30%
Features: 30
Ease Of Use: 30%
Value for Money: 10%
